Actos Bladder Cancer Attorneys
The Actos bladder cancer lawyers at our pharmaceutical product liability law firm are helping people who have been diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking the diabetes drug Actos. Actos (pioglitazone) is a popular type 2 diabetes drug that was approved by the FDA for use in the United States in 1999. Unfortunately, Actos has been linked to a heightened risk of bladder cancer, especially in patients who take the drug for more than one year.
Numerous victims of Actos bladder cancer have filed Actos lawsuits against the drug’s manufacturer, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, on the grounds that the company was negligent in its duty to adequately warn of the dangers associated with this potentially dangerous drug. If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking Actos, you may be entitled to collect significant compensation. Contact us today to learn more about your legal rights. Actos and Bladder Cancer
While Actos is still being prescribed in the United States, health regulators in some European countries have suspended Actos sales and Takeda Pharmaceuticals issued an Actos recall in France in 2011 because of the verified risk of Actos bladder cancer.
In 2010, the FDA released preliminary data from an ongoing study funded by Takeda Pharmaceuticals that showed a strong link between Actos and bladder cancer. Based on the data from this study, the FDA warned that the risk of Actos bladder cancer increases the longer a person uses the drug. This study is still in progress, and no conclusions have been released at this time.
Also in 2010, Italian researchers conducted a study based on FDA Adverse Event Reporting System Records that revealed that a disproportionately high number of people who use Actos suffer from bladder cancer.
The FDA released an Actos label revision in June 2011 that included warnings about the heightened risk of bladder cancer in Actos users. The warnings go on to state that the risk of Actos bladder cancer grows the longer this potentially dangerous drug is used. Drugs related to Actos, such as Duetact, ActoplusMetRx, and Actoplus Met also carry this warning.
This warning also applied to a similar diabetes drug, Avandia, which has been linked to reports of heart attacks and death.
